Recycled Rodents is operated by an informal group of volunteers dedicated to finding orphaned rats and mice new homes. Like any such organization, Recycled Rodents depends extensively on support from volunteers. There are many ways YOU can help make a difference!
Would You Like To Lend A Helping Hand?
Adopt your next rat or mouse from rescue!!

Become a foster Home. Foster homes take in rats and mice on a temporary basis and provide them with a clean place to live, a good diet, and lots of socialization until a new "forever" home can be found. Many rats and mice are turned away because there is no space open in foster homes for them.

Volunteer to be the evaluation and/or transportation coordinator for your area. Often rescue rats and mice are located outside of the area in which foster homes are located. Sometimes the only thing standing in the way of their being rescued is distance. A local person willing to evaluate their health and temperament and coordinate their transport to the nearest foster home can make all the difference.

Be part of the Recycled Rodent Highway. We are in the process of developing a list of people willing to be part of a relay team to assist in transporting critters to and from foster homes and adoption events.

Be a Recycled Rodent Representative. We always need volunteers at AFRMA shows, displays, and other events to talk to possible adopters, screen applicants, and educate the public about proper rat and mouse care. There are several adoption events throughout the year with the Pet Expo in April being the largest and most intense.  Even at events where adoptions are not allowed, representatives from rescue are always needed and we often have foster animals on display.

Help a local Rescuer. If you live near one of our foster homes, offer to lend a hand. Could you clean the rescue critters cage once a week, and spend a few minutes playing with them? Would you be able to "critter-sit" when the rescuer goes away for the weekend? Often a very small amount of assistance can make a huge difference!

Make a donation. Because Recycled Rodents is not a formal organization we are not set up to handle monetary contibutions. We do, however, always welcome donations of food, bedding, usable cages, toys, treats, and other items to assist in the care of animals while they are in foster homes. We love to be ble to send a "starter Kit" home with each rat or mouse that is adopted, and donations of food and bedding make it possible.
